SUMMARY

Intercultural dialogue is one of the most important goals of The European Union. For a successful implementation of the intercultural dialogue between adult inhabitants of Europe especially those that for any reason are considered vulnerable target groups to be aware of their own cultural heritage as well as cultural heritage of other European nations and places. The cultural heritage represents a very important part of any individual’s identity.

Preserving the cultural heritage is important especially for places which are farther from the centre, decisions making and important events. In their old core these places hide many worth seeing sights for example old traditional and preserved houses, smaller museums, natural sights and similar things.

Experience in teaching adults show that adults like to participate in educational programmes that involve a socially important topic especially if it is of local interest. Preserving old customs, items, documents and knowledge of our predecessors seems to be a very important issue for preserving their own identity and the identity of their children. The project is aimed to motivate people, who usually do not or very rarely participate in formal educational programmes, for an informal life long learning. Therefore we decided for carrying out study groups whose aim it will be the research and preservation of cultural heritage in different European countries and places.

The participating institutions believe that each European project is a unique learning experience which has a general learning aspect. Learning from professional colleagues from other European countries may shed lights on our practise and may inspire us to introduce new ways of working; we will gain new professional knowledge to develop something new and innovative which we would not have done otherwise. The participants will also have the possibility to gain new insights and experience and to practice intercultural dialogue.

We also believe that involvement in EU projects will raise the profile of our organisation at local, national and transnational level.

Partnership and distribution of tasks

The participants will discover and document cultural heritage of their town or village which has either been forgotten or has not been important enough. In the analysis of their work the participants will focus on those historical and cultural customs, facts, buildings, objects and events which have almost been forgotten completely. This will serve as a basis for their further work in the second year of the project. The findings will be presented.

  • On local/national level: by publishing the findings in the brochure that will be disseminated to inhabitants, various organizations interested in the topic like the municipality, schools, cultural associations and other.

  • On European level: each organization participating in the project will prepare a presentation of cultural heritage of their own town or village and present it to other participants on the international project meeting which will he held for all participants of study groups from all participating countries. The participants will be able to gain an insight into the cultural heritage of different cultural heritages of places in Europe.

In the second year of the project the participants of the study groups will focus their activities into preservation of historical and cultural habits, facts, objects, buildings, and events important for the identity of the place which have almost been forgotten.

The forgotten cultural heritage will be renewed by:

  • LACE MAKING: lace making of objects of historical value, for example the old town coat of arms, various town symbols and similar

  • PAINTING: the participants would paint the town attractions in different painting techniques

  • THE ART OF CLAY: the participants would present the town attractions in the art of clay forming

  • CULINARY: the participants would collect recipes and prepare typical forgotten dishes of the area

  • THE ART OF POETRY: the participants would collect forgotten works and information about the authors that left a significant historical mark in the area

  • THE ART OF HEALING PLANTS AND HERBS: the participants would collect old recipes about the herbs and their use.

  • THE ART OF NARRATING: stories, legends, superstitions.

EMBROIDERY – making embroidery products typical for the Prekmurje region (curtains, cloths, wall cloths.

ACTIVITIES CONNECTED TO HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS - markets, preparing and peeling pumpkin seeds and corn, congratulating at New Year…

MAKING FLOWERS FROM CREPE PAPER – different flowers for different ocasions e. g. weddings, christenings, decorating the maypole.

European added value

Each of the organizations participating in the project will prepare a presentation of the process of the activities taking place in the Learning partnership and the results (the brochure, the CD and the exhibition) which represent the preservation of the already forgotten cultural heritage and will be presented to other participants of the project in an international project meeting. The meeting will be held for all participants of the study groups from all participating countries. Thus the participants will gain an insight of the activities for preserving the cultural heritage in other participating countries, compare the results and gain the possibility of transferring the good practice in this field into their local environment.
